US gymnastics team’s therapy dog Beacon admitted to emergency hospital

Beacon, the US gymnastics’ team’s therapy dog, has been admitted to an emergency pet hospital.
The golden retriever was experiencing stiffness, laboured breathing and fever and wasn’t responding to anti-inflammatory medication and cold laser therapy treatments.
His owner Tracey Callahan Molnar revealed the news about the pooch in a post on Instagram because Beacon now has more than 50,000 followers who can all send him their best wishes for a speedy recovery.

“X-rays yesterday showed fluid in his chest cavity which was at least in part the reason for the labored breathing. The high fever was of great concern to his veterinarian. The recommendation was to transport him to an emergency hospital with specialists who could diagnose and begin to treat him,” she wrote on Instagram.
“My good friends who were kind to be at the vet visit yesterday (previous visit as well), accompanied me and beacon to the pet hospital and stayed with me until we could all speak with the emergency veterinarian to understand what might be going on and the plan of action.”
Beacon is undergoing more tests because “there are many possible causes” of his symptoms “therefore many things to rule out”.
Callahan Molnar asked for Beacon’s fans to send the therapy dog good wishes in any form including positive thoughts and prayers.
”We know that beacon provides animal assisted therapy but i hope you know that he loves people so much that the in-person interactions he had with so many of you are also meaningful to him. thank you and i will keep you posted,” she said.

Four-year-old Beacon is the first therapy dog the US gymnastics association has had and received the USAG team’s “Goodest Boy” title at the Olympic trials in June.
Owner Callahan Molnar has had Beacon since he was a puppy and he was her service animal before he got his therapy dog certification.
